Verified Purchase. I’m assuming the only people truly interested in Twin Peaks are those of us who loved the show in Particularly the first season and still want to see it today.

I was a faithful watcher the first season until ABC changed the time slot and the plot got a little too “spread out” after the first season concluded. Un fortunately, I lost interest which may be the case for the rest of the world because the show was cancelled soon after.

This review is for all of those who know “Who killed Laura Palmer”, own a copy of the “Secret Diary of Laura Palmer” or never saw the show and wish to see what the big deal is about by starting their own Twin Peaks revival. This is also for those who don’t over alalyze the show and don’t care a bit about the anal details of DVD sound quality and the occasional blip in the picture. I’m a normal guy who likes the show, own a normal tv set and have owned a DVD player for only 6 months.

Don’t worry about it coming from China, don’t fret over the fact that the DVD extras [stink], and don’t worry about the sound being out of sequence what ever that means. Dont let the “import only” sticker on the cover worry you, it works on our TV’s here in the USA just fine.

Sure the sound is a little hollow but it can’t be worse than the original quality over broadcast TV in the early 90’s. Sure there are subtitles, but you can turn them off, sure the picture isn’t digital quality, so what. We all still enjoy Key Largo and it isn’t even in color. This is a good DVD and we’re lucky that the good folks in Taiwan have come up with this copy.

Now, for those of you new to the show, here’s the order to purchasing and watching Twin Peaks. All are good and this way, you don’t start at the end. If you want anal reviews by those folks who get so absorbed in their hobbies and television shows, read some of the other reviews here, go to the many hundreds of web sites on the Internet or find a Twin Peaks reunion festival miles away, drive two days and surround yourself to the point your friends think you’re weird.

This is a very poor attempt at a DVD release of the pilot episode. Probably because it was knocked off with no interest in making more than a minimal effort at quality. The picture is fair, but then again, it is old television.

Not going to make a huge issue about that, as it is forgivable. What is not acceptable is the sound production. Someone had no clue that transferring the audio from it’s original format to the revised “DOLBY” would entail paying attention to what came out the other side. It sounds like everything is coming through a long and windy plastic tunnel that is constantly moving around, inside the ear, and warping the sound.

It’s maddeningly persistent, and horribly distracting to the viewer. The main menu is near garbage, and other parts of the menu hint at some sort of depth, but they wind up in some pretty sad dead ends. That is it! Lastly, this is not the full pilot. It ends with gloved hands of Dr.

Jacobi finding the heart pendant. Where is the big finale, when Mike shoots Bob? Where is Coop saying “Make a wish. This owl is foul. More of a turkey. You would probably be better off buying the VHS copy. Amazon should be ashamed to show so many positive reviews for something so badly assembled.

One person found this helpful. Okay, okay And yes, the subtitles are laughable. But that doesn’t make it unwatchable. It’s probably no worse than when it originally aired 13 years ago. Being a big Lynch fan, but never having watched the series and subsequent film, I ordered this along with the first season and “Fire Walk With Me” to go back and see what all the hub-bub was about. After having just watched the pilot episode, I am not disappointed.

I’m looking forward to the delivery of the other two. I have quite an elaborate and unforgiving home theater system and was still able to get past the shortcomings of this disc and enjoy it. Like I said, it’s not unwatchable, and aside from the minor background hiss, I was able to hear all the dialogue just fine. And the picture wasn’t detestable. So try to get past the inferior quality of this DVD and take it for what it is: the only thing available at this time.

Four-and-a-half stars for the show, two stars for the disc. What an unbelievable start for a television show. This is probably one of the best pilots I have ever seen.

You just get sucked in right away. There are lush trees, beautiful waterfalls, and a quaint town. However David Lynch, being David Lynch likes to scratch below the surface and show us that even a beautiful town like Twin Peaks holds some very dark secrets. Kyle’s Agent Cooper is almost a grown up version of the character he played in Blue Velvet. I say almost because Cooper has a bit of an edge to him that shines through his childlike innocence at moments.

Great examples of this are when he is examining Laura’s body, and the crime scene.
