I have various client computers connecting to an Exchange server using Outlook Anywhere. Outlook and previous versions work fine, even when selecting to remember your password. Outlook randomly shows a popup:. The OK is greyed out so you can only click on Cancel. When you do, Outlook shows Need Password in the bottom right hand corner.

Click on that and Outlook is connected to the exchange and updates. But then this popup comes up again in a few minutes. If you leave it without closing it, Outlook shows Connected, but doesn’t update. This only happens if you selected the check box to remember your exchange password. If you select to enter your password every time Outlook opens, this popup never comes up. This might because that you are using Outlook Anywhere and the authentication settings have been set to Basic Authentication.

You might also consider that there is a corruption in your mail profile which is one of the most common reason why Outlook no longer remembers your password. To confirm that this is indeed the case, you can create a new mail profile with the troublesome account and see if it works correctly now. If so, you can transfer over your data to this new mail profile. I haven’t tried setting it to Basic yet, so I guess I can try that. The popup I get is not a box asking for my credentials though.

It’s a box stating that it’s trying to connect to my exchange mailbox without any input option. This happens on all our clients with Outlook connecting to exchange over Outlook Anywhere. We have a valid paid-for certificate. When removing Outlook and re-installing Outlook again, the problem goes away. When clearing the cached Outlook password from the saved credentials in Windows, the problem goes away, but then you have to enter your exchange password every time you open Outlook.

I’ve read up a bit and it seems you can’t have both methods enabled. And since we have over users in different locations connected to this Exchange, changing to Basic is out of the question. I have the same issue as well and have tried all of the above except I am using office which contains the outlook and this is a windows 7 64bit and exchange We have tried all of the various options within outlook as well as checking the configuaration settings on exchange I get the same type of pop up that does not ask for credentials but asks you states windows security is connecting to active directory client on the server and gives you the option of only saying cancel or exit.

Both of these options result in the same issue where it states “need password” at the bottom of the outlook window. If I click on that it says connected again but only for a few minutes and then the whole scenario is repeated.
