Jan 04, Maciek rated it it was amazing Shelves: read-in , own-in-hardcover , own-in-paperback , owned-books , thriller-mystery-suspense. Intense from the first page to the last, well written and masterfully suspenseful, it’s one of the best books by Dean Koontz.

I decided that I would write a little about the books that I finish for now on. This was a very scary story! I have to say that it actually scared me sometimes and that is pretty hard to do.
Definately a plesant surprise after reading Dean Koontz’s “Life Expectancy”. This book never let up on it’s suspense from beginning to end. If anyone is looking for a good horror, “Intensity” fits the bill. Be warned though, I decided that I would write a little about the books that I finish for now on. Be warned though, this book has a lot of adult stuff and has a lot of situations that are difficult to swallow as the story is centered around the actions of a sociopath and depicts instances of severe child abuse.
However, I gave it five stars becuase I couldn’t put it down, it kept me guessing, and it was actually scary and not cheesy like many horror novels. This book is well written, I’m sure. From the moment I started reading it I felt sick to my stomach from the overly detailed homicidal and torturous events, but also I could not stop reading it because the author held a small hope of the heroine doing some lasting good by helping the year-old girl who was locked in this crazy bastard’s basement.
And of course getting herself out of this situation in which the reader found her. I am glad I finished it. But I’m not going to hurry to read another This book is well written, I’m sure.
But I’m not going to hurry to read another Koontz book. He even dedicated this gorefest of a novel to his mother! Apr 06, Karen B. Re reading for September with Koontzland group.
As with many Koontz novels, I enjoyed this one more the second time around. First of all I liked Koontz’ descriptions, vivid but not too long. His use of simile and metaphor enhanced the reading for me. I won’t go into the plot because many other reviewers have done that.
As for characterization, Chyna is one of Koontz’ strongest female characters. She fought for herself as a young girl and continues to fight the obstacles in her path. Chyna i Re reading for September with Koontzland group. Chyna is as intense in her determination to free herself and another as Edgler Vess is in his attempt to spread destruction. For Edgler love the use of the “d” in his name as he points out that he is on the “edge” what matters is sensation.
He has synesthesia described in the book the ability to observe with more than one sense. The feel, the taste, the smell, the sound of whatever he does including his murders. All of life for him is about sensation.
Chyna pushes herself physically and in doing so builds an interior strength that keeps her going. There are really just the two characters, Chyna and Vess and it is a battle Koontz often explores in his novels Update June This was a re-read for me this time and I enjoyed it just as much as the first time.
Koontz has a way of describing the dark side of human nature that you know even though this is fiction, human depravity is out there and there will always be those who find inner strength to fight it in one way or another. A lot of Chyna’s victory in this novel is finding that inner strength as she struggles with herself. I think I have sadly hit my limit with Koontz. The second was just as amazing. Then somewhere down the road, the villains all started to meld together.
The villains became a little predictable for me because they all shared the same qualities. Now that doesn’t mean that this book didn’t entertain me. There were times that my heart was racing and I was scared to death for the MC. I just wanted it to be over after th I think I have sadly hit my limit with Koontz. I just wanted it to be over after that point. To be honest, I sped read the rest. I predicted everything that happened, which is bad because I can’t predict much of anything.
I make it a point to not look ahead during a story, but the plot in Intensity slapped me square in the face. If you enjoy thrillers and haven’t read many or any Koontz novels, then you will probably love Intensity. I’m still going to give Odd Thomas a go later on, but I think I’m done with his other novels.

Dean Koontz knocked my socks off with this one, and as soon as I started reading, I could not get through it fast enough. Pages burned and I might have had to stomp my book out a few times. In a way, this is not entirely typical for Dean Koontz. Don’t expect anything supernatural or overly bizarre. It’s about a killer and a survivor. The title holds true to its pace.
This book does not slow down once it kicks into high gear. It’ll freak you out, and there’s This is thriller suspense at its best. It’ll freak you out, and there’s some great twists along the way. One of Koontz’s best! Oct 17, Debbie Floyd rated it really liked it Shelves: books-given-away. The title definitely describes this book. Dean Koontz really nailed this book. Easy to read but the characters were caricatures. Chyna the heroine with a family history of a mother with questionable morals and drawn to druggies and nuts.
A lot of the story is about Chyna anticipating pain and escaping from the serial killer. Edgler Vess is basically a nutcase. He believes in intensity of the senses including pain. Give me a break. He is a delusional sadist who murders people. Unluckily for her Vess has targeted Laura. The motor home slaughter house on wheels Vess drives becomes a hiding place for her.
Then she overhears a conversation where mentions he has a girl called Ariel locked in his basement. Chyna decides to save Ariel. Some weird stuff in a Redwood forest and mystical elk convinces her she is doing the right thing. The four Doberman guard dogs make for a chilling and suspenseful encounter. The scene where Vess is confronted with a fiery finish and his work identity revealed is not really a surprise.
I read a television movies was made and I would like to see it. Chyna needs to make some better life decisions. Aug 10, Tracy Frenette rated it it was amazing. Intense and edge of your seat from the beginning to the end.
So good! Highly recommend. Incredible heroine. Chyna chose to fight what seemed impossible. Instead of running and trying to get away like normal people she went after him with the barest of weapons. She was resilient, resourceful, brave. She called it reckless caring. In the beginning of the story, Chyna is trying to get away from Edgler a Fabulous. In the beginning of the story, Chyna is trying to get away from Edgler a serial killer.
But when she hears that he has kept a sixteen year old girl prisoner in his basement for a year, Chyna decides to follow him, go to his home, and free the girl. A theme I liked is Lisbeth and Chyna refusing to be victims. In Dragon Tattoo I was scared at times. In Intensity I was scared almost all the time. About a third of the way in I was so scared that I considered stopping unless I had assurance that there would be a good ending.
So I jumped to the end and read the last half hour. It was great! The author tied things up well including the aftermath. Then I went back and read the rest of the book.
It was still terribly frightening, but I was able to survive because I knew the ending would be good. Reading the end early in no way hurt the story for me. It made it better. I do not want a daily diet of constant scariness and intensity. Edgler enjoyed destroying beauty. He would torture victims with knives and tools. Instead they are told or referred to and the reader sees the bodies after. I was fine with that.
But I also would have been ok with more details and gore. A few times Chyna recalls life with her mother Ann. Ann lived a nomadic life with different boyfriends, drinking, and drugs. Ann enjoyed watching murder. Chyna growing up with Ann was a story of hiding, self protection, and not being cared for. In contrast, I loved the way Chyna treated and cared for Ariel.
I love that Koontz does not use tired cliches. He creates his own. They please me. Here are a few examples: She was in an old testament mood, unwilling to turn the other cheek just now. She was baking and nourishing a loaf of panic, plump and yeasty. The car will tumble ass over tea kettle if it goes over the edge.
The narrator Kate Burton was fabulous. She used a style so appropriate for the intense sentences with pauses. She enhanced the experience. DATA: Narrative mode: third person. It was close to a 5 star for me but the ending went on and on. The title is perfect for this book, it was intense! Feb 24, Fonch rated it liked it. It is quite possible that I will not be able to finish the criticism quoted today, and I am forced to continue it tomorrow, so I ask Goodreads users to be patient with me.

I do not think frankly, that my criticism may arouse so much interest, but from the heart, but I heartily thank all the goodreads users, who expressed their interest in the progress of this novel.
Although I don’t think, this criticism i was completely pleased with. I found it regular, although it got better as I approached the end. The first thing I should note is a curiosity, or anecdote, and that is that in the wake of the coronavirus crisis in Wuhan China. The first thing I must say is that, although I do not know Dean R.
Koontz as a collector of Catholic writers, I was immensely pleased with his success and I hope, this blessed chance. Koontz generally generates distrust of governments that wield power absolutely. We certainly do not know what they are proposing or the power that certain lobbyists have over them, so I say, that I do not believe, that it is precisely the common good. But the satisfaction of inbreds.
Since Koontz has become an improvised prophet. I’m going to give my own opinion, on the subject of coronavirus don’t worry I won’t steal too much time from you, because I didn’t forget what I have to talk about that’s from “Intensity”.
I can only show my agreement with Don Juan Manuel de Prada as always. The first thing is to denounce the enormous cowardice of today’s society. It has been noted that these aggressions that came from the modern world, nominalism, rebirth, Protestantism, liberalism, and illustration.
They have shown us that there is no need to believe in God, and that science will solve all our problems. The attacks by the currents I have denounced have led us to believe that there is only one thing, and it is this earthly life.
It is no longer believed in what catechism calls life after death. As the gurus of atheism say I do not intend to fall for their tactics of insulting them, even if they are very good, especially Mr Onfray. Both Mr. Pullman, especially the latter have it very clear or man when he dies is a set of atoms that dissolves, or as a certain gnostic politician says, without him you must know that you should storm the heavens and be a God.
She also makes an appearance in the post-credits scene of Black Widow, recruiting Yelena Florence Pugh , the heartbroken sister of Scarlett Johannson’s now fallen Avenger. This later played out in Hawkeye , with Yelena now working as an assassin who had been hired to take out Clint Barton. She didn’t, so we guess we’ll see how her new boss feels about that move. As well as the ongoing Flag Smashers arc which didn’t quite come to an end this season, we reckon Madame Hydra will also pit John and perhaps other “villains” she recruits against Sam and Bucky in season two.
He said: “I think people are going to think one thing and get a little bit of another because she’s such a great actress and you’ve seen her do feats for the past, however many years. This is a very different type of character for her. I have no idea what’s going to come of it, but I hope something does. It would be amazing to work with her. Now we know Sharon Carter is in fact the mysterious villain known as the Power Broker , there’s bound to be some fallout from that big reveal too.
Could she be setting up a new faction of Hydra? Peggy would not be pleased by this. But what about everyone’s favourite Marvel bromance? Falcon and Winter Soldier is driven by Captain America’s legacy, and what that means in the modern age, so we expect to see these themes explored even further now that Sam has taken over Steve Rogers’s mantle. And this means there’s space for a new Falcon in the MCU. In the comics, Torres eventually takes on this role , so don’t be surprised if we see that happen on screen one day too.
Speaking of new heroes, Sam’s final conversation with Isaiah didn’t just inspire him, it also inspired Bradley’s grandson, Eli, which suggests he may soon fulfil his comic book legacy and become a superhero called Patriot. If so, then he will go on to play a vital role in the Young Avengers, a new superhero team that Marvel head honcho Kevin Feige has already teased for Phase 4. And what about the show itself?
Will it even be called The Falcon and the Winter Soldier moving forward?

Kate was a lucky woman to have found a perfect man for her like Miles. Their HEA was just as amazing, and it was mentioned in the standalone sequel Next In Line, another book with a great location to find love. Anyway… Where is the love? That said, what we get is what Mimi Jean is best at, a windy twisty insane story, suspense, romance and some outright crazy moments, leaving you to wonder what the hell you just read. I’m totally ready for the second half of this story. It’s a must read. Actual Rating: 4. Sounds fun, right? Our heroine Rose had been neglected and mistreated from day one in her life, so it was quite heartening to watch her stand on her own two feet and take control of things like the true survivor she was.

She needs help to date without those trying to cheat her out of her inheritance from knowing what she is attempting to accomplish. Bex agrees to help her with the condition that she comes to see him once a week, recognizing that Rose has not come to terms with how she was raised and the emotions associated.
I loved the strong characters. Despite her upbringing, Rose has such strength and confidence in herself and a touch of vulnerability.

I loved Rose. A process that cannot be deviated from. He is dedicated towards giving his clients the tools they need to be their own hero and it was endearing to watch him struggle with his rigidness and maintaining that professional boundary between him and Rose.
The book has it humorous moments as well as some moments of suspense. It moves at a good pace and has an intriguing storyline. The various potential suitors were entertaining. This book does end in a cliffhanger.
I received The Boyfriend Collector for free and look forward to the 2nd book, the conclusion to this duet. Mimi Jean Pamfiloff has done it again. She’s created a story with a cliffhanger, and one that I am eagerly awaiting the final outcome, as should come sometime in August.
In a nutshell, Rose Marie Hale has until her 21st birthday to marry in order to receive her inheritance. And this man must be on a specific list provided by her grandparents, whom by the way, make Cinderella’s stepmother look like a saint.

Or is he? Well, regardless if he can be or not, Rose falls for him but he’s off limits, of course. Since he’s her psychologist. It’s part one of a modern-day Cinderella story, and I for one can’t wait for the ending. Always humorous yet poignant. Write on, Mimi. Write on. It’s not my favourite book from this author perhaps because i hard an hard time to connect with the characters now since it’s only part 1 of the story that could change but at this point i dislike Rose.
Rose didn’t have an happy childhood that’s true, her grandparents were bad people and she suffered from it To help her with that she ask the help of a therapist Bex Hughes who isn’t resist well , wanting to help Rose who remind him of cinderella and protect her. Rose is determined, she is strong willed but also terribly naive I didn’t like how she reacted with Gustavo and then the decision she takes.
This is really well written, there are funny moments and while it’s part one it doesn’t end on a cliffhanger so if you want a good contemporary romance this can be the right book for you and bonus part 2 releases soon! I hated how it started. Block after block of her whining that ‘all my family hated me’ without showing it.
We have just a single conversation [if i remember right] with her grandma [before the shit hits the fan] where she tries to sweeten her and talks almost like the cliche’ ‘blonde chick’ antagonist. And that’s it. And it’s such a major point of the story!
At the beginning i skipped a lot of stuff, of her thoughts more precisely, because they looked like were just dumped there disregarding the pace of the story. And i think that’s one of the flaws of the entire story in general, it felt like the author needed to say something [for ex. He just spent the entire chapter fawning over the protagonist and that’s it.
The plot : view spoiler [ It was mediocre. Could have been a lot better. I didn’t understand why the author choose for Rose to lash out at the party and not continue with her plan. It could have had so many layers.
Instead we get her dating and going to see Bex, her therapist, for no actual reason. Anyway, as i was saying before You go to the police. Then another thing that i didn’t understand was her mother’s book: like Cause it looked like she kept fluctuating between theories. I liked the end tho. With Nora he has limits, and wth Kingsley he has none.

William is now my Vampyre BBF 1. She changed his life, she was his light, his love, his protection. Colin is the bad boy of the Sloan family, or he used to be. He is focused and determined. He always gets what he wants but always doing the right thing.
